  • Reflecting a growing national trend, LA’s Covenant Presbyterian Church has begun “offering a 30-minute service complete with individual doggie beds, canine prayers and an offering of dog treats.”  Rev. Tom Eggebeen “hopes it will reinvigorate the church’s connection with the community, provide solace to elderly members and, possibly, attract new worshippers who are as crazy about God as they are about their four-legged friends.”
  • Nine African painted dogs born at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium have found a surrogate mother in a mutt from a local animal shelter.  After the mother died shortly after giving birth, zoo officials “found a mixed-breed mutt who recently delivered a litter of pups. That dog, Honey, has been nursing the wild dogs.”  They are expecting to wean the puppies in the next two weeks.

Not only has it been proven that dogs can sniff out cancer, cushion people who have seizures, as well as warn diabetics and kids with peanut allergies,  recent studies have shown that dogs have the mental capacity  of a 2 to 2 1/2 year-old-child.
  • Do you ever worry about the security risk of having a dog door?  Well, now there’s a solution.   According to The Los Angeles Times, “the Plexidor Pet Door is an interesting alternative. After installing the mini door, only pets with the compatible RFID chips attached to their collars can enter. The door opens when it detects a nearby chip, which the company assures is waterproof and shockproof.”
